Can you hire a plumber and electrician without going through the contractor?

My first contractor flaked out and never gave me an estimate after I spent hours explaining to the plumber and electrician what I wanted done. Now I am trying to get the plumber and electrician’s estimates and have them lined up to work on a specific date. “Professional courtesy” because the bid was under the flakey contractor has impeded the process. I want to save the “surcharge” my contractor would charge and just hire the plumber and electrician by myself. Why is this so hard? What is the secret code to get this done??!! I want to save myself the money, especially since the bids are already done and they know what I want/need done!

Why would one faucet have a different taste than others (what is it putting in the water, and is it dangerous?

I added two new faucets with new lines a year ago, why would water from one of them have a strong sweet taste, and the other taste the same as the rest of the house. Is this dangerous? It is no longer a new faucet, and I try running it for a while first. I am afraid to drink from this faucet, and won’t let my pregnant wife drink from it. Should I be concerned?

I am curious to know how much oil people use daily or monthly to heat their homes in the winter with home heating oil. If you can also give an idea of the floor area you are heating, it would be helpful.

Bathroom??

A public bathroom is constantly vandalized. Besides a camera pointed at the entrance and having someone regularly check it, what legal things could be done to monitor people?
The bathroom is indoors. A bathroom key cannot be done. Many people use the bathroom. A bathroom attendant cannot be done either.

The sinks in my home are blocked?

Two of the sinks in my home have blockage. One of the sinks it takes about 8 hours for the water to completely go down the sink. The other sink has complete blockage with no water movement.
I do need to save a few dollars and do not want to call a plumber at this time. How can I unblock both of these sinks myself?
Both sinks are in the bathroom.
